In my time as a public speaker and an educator and mentor, I have helped thousands of people create cashflow from their investing that they can comfortably live on for the rest of their lives and am frequently asked the question: Why? I have answered this question time and time again, and I have resorted to a particularly insightful quote from a particularly insightful man; Dolf de Roos.  “When you are privileged with the talent of knowledge and the ability to pass it on – it is your duty to do so”  I find this answer to be thoroughly appropriate and it doesn’t just apply to work with my students. It truly is a way of thinking. If I can plant a seed in someone’s mind that will, over time, grow in that person and enable that person to achieve any form of success – whether it be through peace of mind, sound health, material riches, financial freedom or anything else, then that seed is what I want to plant. I want to be able to distribute those seeds so that they spread like a plague.  I grew up on the land and as such I have been around farmers and graziers all my life. Today I consider myself a farmer, not of cattle or crops, but of people. This always has been and continues to be my life passion.  I believe there is no better way to make that happen than to teach you how to teach your kids.  How can we expect a growing and prosperous economy when the earth’s future inhabitants are financially uninformed? 9  Why do we make sure that our children are up-to-date with their French revolution facts or what Shakespeare really meant in one of his allegories, but leave them utterly ignorant about any business knowledge, economics or financial management?  As an educator, economist and an accountant, this is fundamentally against what I believe in, and I strongly encourage financial education for our children. I have never been much of a writer,(speaking and teaching are more my strengths), however this book will be a real account of what I did to teach my children, along with the analytical and financial reasoning for my actions. It will also incorporate stories and examples from some of my students’ experiences with their children.  I hope that it is used and cherished by parents who may be unsure of how they can help their kids to ensure their ‘comfortability’ when it comes to money. An important thing to remember when teaching your kids is that instead of giving them fish, you want to teach them how to fish. You are not going to be around forever. This is what I’ve done with my children, and recommend all parents do with theirs.  It is my intention that, upon completion of this book, you will be able to not only impart your financial knowledge and experience to your children, but teach them the invaluable benefits of having a strong understanding of financial matters.
